John 2:1-12

John 2:1–12 records Jesus’ first sign, and nearly every detail carries meaning. At a wedding on the third day, the celebration runs dry, and Jesus transforms water from six stone jars used for Jewish purification into an abundance of the finest wine. The old vessels of ceremonial cleansing become the setting for something new and greater. The true Bridegroom has come, bringing cleansing, joy, abundance, and the grace of the new covenant. Even Jesus’ words, “My hour has not yet come,” point beyond Cana toward the cross, where His glory would be revealed most fully. At Cana, Jesus does far more than rescue a wedding feast—He gives a sign of who He is, reveals His glory, and His disciples believe in Him.
