James 5:13-18

In James 5:13-18, the Holy Spirit calls the church to a life of fervent, honest prayer in every season—whether suffering, sickness, sin, or joy. We are commanded to pray, anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord, confess our sins to one another, and trust that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

This is a fresh reading that moves beyond formulaic guarantees of physical healing. Instead, God promises the restoration of the broken spirit, the forgiveness of sins, and the strength to endure. We affirm that God still heals powerfully today and all His gifts are active—yet we humbly submit to His sovereign will, even when the answers look different than we hoped. Prayer is never our last resort; it is our first and greatest response.
