James 5:7-9
James 5:7–9 — The Parousia
Having pronounced judgment upon the oppressive rich, James now turns to the suffering believer with a message of hope: be patient, for the coming (Parousia) of the Lord is near. Like a farmer who waits expectantly for the precious fruit of the earth, Christians are called to endure hardship with steadfast confidence, knowing that God’s appointed harvest is certain. The promise of Christ’s return is not merely a future doctrine but a present source of strength. Because the Judge is standing at the door, believers must resist the temptation to grumble against one another and instead establish their hearts in faith. James reminds the church that history is moving toward a divine climax—the personal return of Jesus Christ—and that patient endurance, unity, and hope are the proper response to the nearness of His coming.
